It all started with the classic love story of boy meets major corporation and falls in love; ah, the intensely modern romance between a man and a chain store. We’re not generally too wild about that sort of genre-defying potential brand downgrade, but who at this point is going to argue with the wild success of Isaac Mizrahi’s collaboration with Target? Isaac’s bringing cashmere to the masses and designing surprisingly affordable wedding dresses has us feeling exceptionally open to the prospect of designer collaborations. Anyway, how could we ever turn down affordable Vera Wang?
We tend to happily give Kohl’s a miss when we’re out shopping; until they started popping up everywhere, who knew you could do Sear’s only more suburban? With their new collaboration with Vera Wang, though, we’re thinking it’s time to put on our blinders, stride past the racks of mom jeans and sally nobly forth to the bargain-priced Simply Vera Wang apparel, intimates, and home collection. As if the chain store prices weren’t low enough, amazing sales are making these frocks even more affordable. Be still our hearts – we’ll take the whole collection! Starting with the Beaded Pintuck Dress pictured above.
They’ve done Proenza Schouler apparel and Devi Kroell clutches, and Target continues to knock it out of the park with their recent collection by hip New York designers Libertine. We love this Woven Tank Dress in French Cream (pictured) and the signature Flat Front Oxford Khakis, too. High fashion hipster wear for under thirty bucks? Yes, please.
Revered Swedish chain H&M persists in being amazing and tragically not yet as widespread as its department store counterparts; we think it’s worth the trip for their collaborations with designers like Viktor & Rolf, Karl Lagerfeld, and the upcoming pairing with Roberto Cavalli (see preview above). In lieu of flying out for a collection opening, we hope to coax our more H&M-adjacent Bridezilla besties to stand in line for us and get a size four in everything.
